Every woman strives to obtain balance, but a key component that needs to be in place in order to achieve the best juggling act is our support systems. Yes, that is right…sheros need support too! Support systems are the people that we have identified as safe and reliable folks that can operate as an extension of ourselves when we are faced with multiple tasks. Our support systems can be crucial to our daily living as they help to bring a sense of relief to our chaotic schedules and enables us to be truly productive without being stretched so thin.
Why struggle trying to be the end all be all or worry about others judgment when you reach out for a hand! It is totally okay to call in the tribe, the village, the back up or whatever name you call them. Most times they don’t mind and would be glad too assist as it gives purpose to your relationship with them. Let them help with school pick ups, dropping kids off at practice or manage whatever task you have delegated for them to handle.
Now, you may say I don’t have anyone that can support me in those ways. Well, think again…pull out your phone and really look at your contacts as you have more help than you realize or have tapped into. Consider getting potential assistance from not just family or friends…hit up one of the other soccer parents, or dance moms or neighbors. Your support team will look different from other people and that’s fine….it’s personalized which makes it even better!
Please understand clearly that the establishment of support is essential because it decreases the amount of unnecessary stress that we often create by trying to get everything done alone. You are not going to be rewarded any more or seen even greater by being burnt out. We are here to encourage you to give yourself a break sometimes and understand that you don’t have to do everything yourself. The fantasy of being “super-mom” or “super woman” promotes a false sense of what really encapsulates a strong woman. We’re all strong in our own right and we’re even stronger when we know how to let people in and help.
